Shop Smart

At Debteriorate, we know that debt payments that are too high can be debilitating. That’s why we’re committed to finding financial solutions for all our customers, like debt consolidation, debt payoff and debt counseling. Our goal is to get you out of debt fast. And once we do, we’d like you to stay out of debt. One way to do that is shop smart.

Shopping is at the heart of American living. We shop for groceries, for clothing, for homes, basically we shop for everything, even for fun sometimes. Along the way we overpay for things spending more than we’d like. The next time you’re in the market for say, anything, use these tips to shop smartly.

Shop online: These days everyone has a website. Whether you’re shopping for electronics, clothing or a car, it’s wise to check online first. You might run into online-stores only or sites representing brick-and mortar-stores. In both cases, prices can be lower online.

Use coupons: Especially for groceries, sites like coupons.com have coupons for everything from cereal to olive oil as well as toiletries and movies. You can save a ton at the supermarket by just printing out coupons.

Buy in second-hand stores: You can stay fashionable and still save. Forget the department stores and high priced boutiques, second-hand stores have everything from jeans to t-shirts and work wear and shoes. Plus, you’ll have a style to call your own.

Haggle: It’s amazing what you can get if you just ask. Whether you’re shopping for clothes, art, or buying a car, even a home, haggling can get you very far as long as you stay within reason. So go ahead and feel free to lower the price of something, remember if the person doesn’t want to sell it you, they won’t.

Buy used or pre-owned: Instead of buying a brand new car that will depreciate as soon as you drive it off the lot, buy a second-hand car or better yet, pre-owned. If you buy directly from the owner, you can always have the car checked by a mechanic. And with a pre-owned car, it’s already certified and ready to go.

Shop with a list: When grocery shopping, make sure you have a list. That way you won’t buy things that you don’t need.

Buy generic: These days you can buy a lot of things generic, you don’t have to be loyal to the bigger brands. From food to toiletries to medicine and other things, generic will save you a lot of money at the end of the week, month and year.

Buy in bulk: For big savings, buy in bulk and store the extras. Not only will you spend less money per item, but you’ll also have it on hand when you need it, almost never running out of anything.

Shop during sale season: You’ll find sales across the nation across goods and services from November to January. Prices drop as retailers battle it out for your purchases. Take advantage and buy big ticket items like electronics or cars.
